Join Tye's Top Tour & Travel and learn what it was like to work for the queen of American society. Step back in time and enjoy Newport's elegant past.
In this historical reenactment, the Astor family arrives in May but first the house must be maintained and a proper staff of servants needs to be hired for the summer season. As you tour the mansion, you'll see what it was like to be a member of society and get a peek into the daily lives of the domestic staff. Whether you are Victorian history buff or just traveling with family and friends, you are sure to enjoy this spirited interpretation of the lifestyle the Astors brought to Newport. The Astors Beechwood is the only living history museum of the Newport mansions.
While touring the house in April, you are greeted by the head of the domestic staff and allowed to fill out an application for employment. During the process, you will have a lunch break and learn from the staff what it was like to work for the Astor’s. The Astor’s only wanted people of the right temperament working for them and coming in contact with the 400 guests that were on Mrs. Astor’s social register. Lunch will be served in Mrs. Astor’s private dining room.
