Join Tye's as they travel to Salem to explore the unique history of what at one time was New England’s busiest seaport, home to authors and made famous by the witch trials of the 1600's.
The day begins with a visit to the Witch Museum, which will acquaint you with what happened during the Witch Trials. You'll learn that the witch hysteria was caused by eating contaminated grain combined with the imagination of teenagers seeking attention. Next it is on to Pickering Wharf where many modern witches have their shops. Most of them are more than happy to explain their beliefs and religion to those who ask. Today's witches' beliefs are based on being in harmony with the planet, rather than the satanic rituals often attributed to them. Lunch will be included at Victoria Station overlooking the harbor.
In the afternoon, visit the Salem Maritime Museum, run by the National Park Service, where you will learn the importance of Salem and its sailing fleet. You will be able to walk through its historic district where you will see homes dating back to the 1700's. The final stop will be to the House Seven Gables, the former home of Nathaniel Hawthorn. On your tour you will have the opportunity to explore what were once secret passages in this home while learning about the author's life.
