Day 1: Depart USA for Venice Fly from the USA to Venice, Italy. Remember, you need a passport to enter Europe. On arrival, you will be transferred to your centrally located hotel. In the afternoon join up for a walking tour around St. Mark’s Square followed by a welcome dinner. (D) Day 2: Venice Today, a local guide will show you the highlights of Venice. On your tour you will visit the islands of Murano and Burano, known for lace making and Venetian glass, as well as the major attractions of this city. One of the highlights will be a gondola ride through the canals followed by dinner. (B/D) Day 3: Florence This morning you will be transferred to the train station for your rail trip to Florence. On arrival in Florence you will be met by your local guide for a combination walking and motor coach city sightseeing tour. You will soon discover that Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and a shopper's paradise. This afternoon, there will be time to explore some of the market places on your own before gathering in a local restaurant for dinner. (B/D) Day 4: Wine Tasting / Acadameia Journey into the Tuscan countryside where you will see the beauty of this region. Visit a local farm town for the tasting of Chianti. One of the highlights of the day will be a visit to the famous Academia Gallery to see Michaelangelo's David. You could spend days wandering from gallery to gallery in this city that is so rich in art. (B/D) Day 5: Free Day to Enjoy Florence Tye's has left this day as a free day so that you may enjoy all Florence has to offer. Perhaps you would enjoy an optional trip to Pisa to see the leaning tower, shopping in the trendy stores, visiting the numerous galleries, enjoying the market places, seeing the botanical gardens, or perhaps a historical tour with a local guide. Tonight, gather with everyone to share the day's adventures. (B/D) Day 6: Rome Travel to Rome by train where you will stay in the eternal city. On arrival in Rome after checking into the hotel, your day begins with a walking tour of the Vatican followed by a combined walking and motor coach tour of Rome, stopping at such sites as the Colliseum and the ancient monuments. As part of the walking tour, visit the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. It is said that if you toss a coin over your shoulder and into the fountain you will return to Rome in the future. Enjoy dinner followed by an illuminated night tour of Rome. (B/D) Day 7: Free Day Rome You will be provided with a "hop on/hop off" pass so that you can see Rome at your own pace and spend time at the sites that most interest you. (B) Day 8: Rome You have the day free to enjoy Rome on your own. It is a perfect time for shopping or visiting what really interests you. Your tour director will arrange optional tours for you today based on the interest of the group. These will often include private walks with local guides. Tonight features a gala evening dinner. (B/D) Day 9: Sorrento Travel to Sorrento by coach where you will spend the next three nights. In the springtime, Sorrento is surrounded with the smells of lemon trees. On the way to Sorrento, stop to visit an olive oil factory where you will be able to taste the cold pressed olive oil, which tastes nothing like what we get in the USA. The hotel will be situated overlooking the bay. (B/D) Day 10: Pompei and the Amalphi Dr. Drive the spectacular Almalphi Drive, which some people consider to be the most magnificent road in Italy. This road stretches across the coast with hairpin turns and scenic vistas around every turn. You will also visit the city of Pompeii and walk through the city that was once covered in ash. (B/D) Day 11: Isle of Capri Travel by boat to the Isle of Capri. Weather permitting, visit the famous Blue Grotto. The Blue Grotto has been known since the Roman times, and Emperor Tiberius chose it as his own personal nymphaeum (Roman monumental fountain, translator’s note) (the statues of Pagan gods found on the bottom of the cave date back to the Roman times), later on almost nothing was known of the grotto, partly because the fishermen of the island believed it to be haunted by evil spirits. The island itself has some of the prettiest views that you will see anywhere in Italy. Tonight you will say good by to newfound friends at a farewell banquet. (B/D) Day 12: Home Return home today filled with memories of your trip to Italy. (B) |
